MERCI Let's Run Away

Ladies and gentleman...here is a young lady with great vocals and talent. I've had the privileged to have seen this young lady grow up in my home church, Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist in Detroit, MI hearing her singing in the children's and youth choir, blowing the entire congregation away with her remarkable voice. Her voice, granted her access to American Idols season two where she had an opportunity to show the world, just how amazing her voice was. Check out her video "Let's Run Away" and tell me your thoughts and give me some feedback.

J Dilla - "Won't Do"

This is the type of mood I'm in today, so I'm paying some major homage to the man who's touched so many lives in this music industry. Fist pump to the sky.....

To Experience it…First you have to experiment with it! The B. Williams Experiment is just that good!

Meeting Brandon “B” Williams is an experience in itself, when we met for our interview on July 8th at Starbucks, I entered into the coffee shop, and there he stood, with his grayish graphic tee on, some light blue jeans and chuck taylor shoes and I-pad in hand. Brandon is a very humble man, with an awesome personality and great presence. Detroit bred, Brandon has always been very passionate about music, stemming all the way back to the age of five, when his grandmother purchased him hisvery first little keyboard, and as the cliche goes, that's all he wrote.

On July 7, 2011 The B. Williams Experiment took front stage at the historical Bakers Keyboard Lounge, where Derrick Benford (Keyboard), Damon Warmack (Bass) LaDarrell Johnson (Saxophone) and Brandon Williams (Drums) made musical history, bringing the smooth sounds of Coltrane, Miles Davis and many other jazz greats and infusing in today’s great jazz music with a twist. These four brothers turned it out, and gave those who were present, an experience of a lifetime.

When you hear people speak about real jazz music and those great jazz musicians of the past, you very rarely, here those same jazz enthusiast speak as highly about jazz today as they did, back than. Brandon is attempting to do something about that, he is attempting to do something in music that has never been done before, he’s looking to bridge the gap between the generations, by taking something as simple and classic as Blue & Green by Miles Davis and putting a little Dilla on it and introducing the younger generation to a whole entire different world of Jazz.

Brandon wears far more hats, than just a drummer of his own band, his career is astonishing and the list of people who have helped contribute to the pivotal point of his success were those who saw greatness in this young man, stemming from Denaun Porter “Kon Artist” of D-12; who took Brandon under his wing and showed him the ropes. Brandon has had the opportunity to work with D-12 on their album, as well as worked with Kon Artist on a Dr. Dre project for the Detox Album (which has not been released as of yet) Brandon has also worked on Jadakiss latest album “The Kiss” on a track title "smoking gun" featuring the musically talented song bird herself, Miss Jazmine Sullivan.

To know Brandon is to know you’re in for a treat, musically & professionally. Brandon B. Williams has and is all about real good...feel good...life altering soul healing music. Brandon wants to make sure that the music he produces and put’s out is healing to a person’s soul. When a person hears his music, he wants them to be able to heal from whatever pains, that they are dealing with or situations that they may be going through. Detroit, by far has the most talented musicians, singers, producers, writers ever known to man kind. It’s time that you took the opportunity to open up your ears and listen and open your eyes to see it, before it’s all said and done, and you’ve missed your chance to experience such a great person as Brandon “B’ Williams.

If you’re looking to check out and hear for yourself the greatness they call, Brandon “B” Williams, here is where you can catch him during the week:

Wednesday: “Official Birthday Celebration at the Key Club 9:00pm - $5 cover

Thursday: The B. Williams “Experiment” at Bakers Keyboard Lounge 8:00pm - $5 cover

Friday: The B. Williams “Experiment” at Motor city Wine 10:00pm - $5 cover

Music is essential to the soul and Brandon Williams is bringing that type of music to us all day long. For more information on B. Williams feel free to follow him on twitter at https://twitter.com/#!/soulasismusic or become his facebook friend at http://www.facebook.com/bwilliamstwo

My saying goes, every person has a voice, and how you choose to utilize yours in the ultimate key. Brandon’s voice speaks to us in his music, and it’s being spoken all across the broad, so take some time to listen to what this gentleman has to say….

Introducing Rockisha...

Rockisha has been singing for as long as she can remember and she's enjoying every minute of it. Rockisha's mother was a singer and exposed not only her but also her siblings to several genres of music; mainly Gospel. Like most singers with phenomenal voices, started out singing in the church and she was very involved with the music department as well as other auxiliaries within her church, which inspired her desire to explore the many possibilities of singing and living out her dream.

When Rockisha isn't singing, she enjoys listening to others sing and or perform, especially her mother. To quote Rockisha "Music is genuinely pleasing to my soul."which is a personal motto that rockisha stands behind. Rockisha shares her point of view as how music impacts her life and on her success as an artist. "Singing takes me to a place where I can escape the unpleasant and unwelcoming truths of reality at times." Rockisha, says that "music takes her to a place where she can be free, where she can be herself without any rules or limitations, judgments and or disappointments.

Currently Rockisha has her CD singles Promise and Livin 4 Today both on Itunes and on CD baby. She's a writier, a mother and person passionate about her dream. For booking 313-570-0244 and check her out on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=703132034

Rockisha - Promise

What's up VIW...Rockisha is a new indie artist from Detroit who is out here doing her thing. I've had the opportunity to meet this wonderful young lady and she is such a down to earth person. Rockisha currently has two singles out and you can check them both out on itunes right NOW! Let's try and support our own home grown indie aritst, who are out here putting out real music. The Foreign Exchange - The Last Fall (Official music video)

Foreign Exchange has done it again...this video depicts how someone can take something as simple as a person writing "thank you" for your service on a tab, and showing them kindness for them simply eating at a restaurant can contribute to a person, subconsciously thinking they can be together. Things like this do happen, and to understand the ending of FE's video you gotta understand that people are like this, just put yourself in her shoes for a minute. The Foreign Exchange Authenticity Tour will be in Detroit Sunday May 8, 2011 at the Magic Stick, get your tickets today.

Kelly Price 'Not My Daddy' Official Video

Kelly Price's self title album "Kelly" drops tomorrow and I am in love with this song. I'm not only a huge fan of Kelly Price, but of Stokley of Mint Condition. It's been a while since we've had this amazing voice grace us with her R&B vocals, well she had an all star cast working with her on her new album, which I know will be heavy rotation on my ipod touch! Check it out Voices....

When it’s all said and done, what have you truly done for yourself lately?

I was reading one of my favorite online magazine’s clutchmagazine.com while, sitting at my new cozy starbucks I plan to frequent, as my castle of solitude from the craziness of the world, and I came across this particular article written about 5 Rewarding Trips Every Single Black Woman Should Take.”

I got to thinking about the many conversations I’ve had with my sister friends (because these ladies are beyond just friends to me, their my unbiological sisters) and I can recall some of our pervious conversations, about being able to go where you want to go because it’s just you. I thought back to my recent get up and go vacation I just had taken and how I’ve heard some of them say, that I should take the time out to enjoy and appreciate being able to do things like that, because after all, I really only have me to depend on with no obligations but to myself.

While on my vacation away from my familiar surroundings, I got to thinking about how being thirty-two with no kids and no husband that there should be in no way, shape, form or fashion that I shouldn’t be exactly where I want to be in my life. So I asked the presumptuous question of myself…just because I have no major obligations (i.e. kids, husband) am I truly deemed more fortunate to be able to live my life with no obligations to anyone but myself. With my finger tapping on my bottom lip in deep thought, I said to myself, if I choose to move out of state I can, if I choose to quit my job and start my own business I can, and the reasons behind my decision won’t hinder or hurt anyone but me or it can benefit me because after all my obligations are solely to me. In some shrewd light it comes off as being selfish, but then again, it’s just YOU so how else could it appear? Could it be for those who choose to not have any personal obligations (husband/wife/kids) are somehow we less fulfilled than, those who have someone to share their lives with?

Take the movie Eat, Pray, Love for instance, in the movie Liz who is played by Julia Roberts is being walked inside the airport by her best friend, and her friend starts to cry and tells Liz, the reason why she told her that she was crazy to go off and live in another country for a year, because if she had no husband and or baby she wanted to get away with her too. In watching the film I wondered Julia Roberts was unfilled in her life the way it was and someone for a moment her friend wanted to life a part of her life, that she use to be able to have.

With the weight of the world, weighing heavy on all of us, single, married, divorced with or without children, it’s hard not to think about what you’re life would be like IF THIS. No matter how your life pan’s out you can’t control the cards that were dealt to you, but you can learn how to play the game and be good at it. I’m not certain about all things, but what I am certain about in my journey is this, settling for anything and anyone doesn’t make you happy, it just makes you bitter and unhappy on the inside. The shell you wear on the outside will eventually begin to crack and break and your unhappiness will soon, be seen by the world you work so hard at not showing who you really are.

Trying to emulate what your friends have in their lives, will only lead to great disaster for you, because what’s for them is what’s for them, and what’s for you will soon come to you, you just have to be patient and wait on it. Until then, take the time to enjoy YOUR life while focusing on the things that are important to you and prepare to embark on your journey that will guide you to be where you know you should be. Everything else, if you want it will come in due time, I don’t know the time or the date of exactly when it will take place, but if you speak into existence long enough and trust and believe that it will be, than it shall be. Everyone has a voice, and what your voice is and how you make it heard it truly up to you. Your voice is your word, speak and be hear.

Kelly Rowland - Motivation (Explicit) ft. Lil Wayne

Ok ya'll Kelly Rowland's new song title Motivation feat Lil Weezy is a Keeper or a Not so WORTH my ear drums song? After she dismissed Beyonce's daddy as her manager and her last album didn't do that hot in the states, (but did remarkable numbers in the UK) do you think this song should have been the 1st single she released from her soon to be debut album? Hey my voice is humming NO but what does your voice say? Is a motivator or a downer?

Is Osama Bin Laden death a step closer to ending the war on terror?

News Breaking news took place on Sunday May 1, 2011. Osama Bin Laden, has been killed. In what President Obama said last night "the world is a better place with bin laden dead" Can we now as american's be at rest? Or is this just another piece of the puzzle that has been solved? September 11, 2001 was the day none of us will every forget, it was the day that many of our lives changed forever.

Our nation as whole has a lot to take in, however, will this bring our troops home and has the war on terror ceased? I believe that the death of Osama Bin Laden will bring fourth more reasons, for our nations to continue to be at war. For those who lost loved one's on 9/11 and who's lives were dramatically shifted and changed due to Osama Bin Laden heinous attack on the world trade center, can now be at piece.

Now I ask you, what does this mean for us today? Will things change for our nation? Now that Bin Laden is out of the picture, will gas prices continue to raise? Will security at airport increase to the 100th power? What will now, be the reason for the government to say our troops can or cannot come home? Because truthfully, what will we be fighting for if they choose not to send them home?

Chene Park Concerts for June...Sizzling

Chene Park has released their concert schedule for the upcoming summer, and for the most part, the line up's aren't that bad. Chene Park is one of those places where you don't necessarily have to be inside of the venue to enjoy the music that's coming from inside of the amphitheater, you simply can grab your chair in the bag, small grill and a cooler and sit outside and enjoy the melodic voices of the artist who grace the stage or hear the sounds of the musical instruments being played on stage by today's latest and greatest jazz artist.

I've taken the liberty of posting all of the concerts that will be taking place in June, and I must give credit to those who worked hard to get Lauryn Hill to appear in concert, this is a concert that I would love to be front row at.

Pieces of Me!

Four time grammy nominated Ledisi, has done it again and this time, she's doing it bigger and better than before. Her new album titled "Pieces of Me" will hit stores on June 14, 2011 and I know she wont leave any of her adoring fan's disappointed with this one. Ledisi released the single "Pieces of Me" from her new album, to give us a taste of what she's bringing to the table. When I heard this song, I could tell that Ledisi dug deep within herself on this album, so her fan's could see her differently and grow to appreciate her and her music even more. Like the chorus of the song say's "when you look at my face… You gotta know that I’m made… of everything love and pain. (These are the pieces of me) Like every woman I know… I’m complicated fo sho... But when I love I love til there’s no love no mo. (These are the pieces of me)." We all give pieces of ourselves to others each and everyday, but at the end of the day, we're not afraid to be who we are. Check out Ledisi's new single, "Pieces of Me" and on June 14th pick of your copy of "Pieces of Me" http://youtu.be/5GuZMVDZEPs

In Real Mint Conditon

Today is the day that Mint Condition released their seventh studio album title [7]. Mint Conditions single from their highly anticipated album "Caught My Eye" is one of my favorite songs. I've been a huge fan of Mint Condition, ever since I saw the video for pretty brown eyes on the Juke box. If you're not familiar with the Juke Box it was an all day video station that played music videos by phone request on Barden Cable Vision. This eclectic group of men play well and sing well together and have been together as a group for a very long time.

I am looking forward to seeing Mint Condition as they open for Monica on April 30th at the Detroit Opera House. If you haven't gotten your tickets yet, than I suggest you head out and purchase your tickets very soon, because I hear that Mint Condition puts on an amazing show. If you haven't yet heard Caught My Eye from their new album 7, than please take a listen to it now and hurry out and purchase your Mint Condition album today.

More than a "Thang"

Detroits been known as “Hitsville for a while, producing and developing many talented groups and singers stretching the musical spectrum and introducing the world to young, and incredibly gifted talent like Elijah “Lil ElijahJ” Johnson.

Lil ElijahJ, sets precedence for young kids that dare to dream and dream big. At the tender age of 12, Elijahis known to many as a triple threat phenom. He not only sings, he dances and acts. Elijah had the opportunity to prove his talent on a family trip to Atlanta in 2008 where he auditioned for the role of Simba for the Disney Broadway musical “The Lion King.” At the time, the part eluded him; a year later he was called back to audition in New York, with over eight thousand other kids. This time, Elijah came out on top and got the part as Young Simba.

Elijah captivated the hearts of many, while playing Young Simba in Las Vegas Nevada. During his Vegas stretch, he performed at the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert at the Palms Hotel Pearl Theatre, where he gave a remarkable and noteworthy performance. It won him a standing ovation and kudos from Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’Robin Leech , saying Elijah could be the next Michael Jackson Phenom.
