More than a "Thang"

Detroits been known as “Hitsville for a while, producing and developing many talented groups and singers stretching the musical spectrum and introducing the world to young, and incredibly gifted talent like Elijah “Lil ElijahJ” Johnson.

Lil ElijahJ, sets precedence for young kids that dare to dream and dream big. At the tender age of 12, Elijahis known to many as a triple threat phenom. He not only sings, he dances and acts. Elijah had the opportunity to prove his talent on a family trip to Atlanta in 2008 where he auditioned for the role of Simba for the Disney Broadway musical “The Lion King.” At the time, the part eluded him; a year later he was called back to audition in New York, with over eight thousand other kids. This time, Elijah came out on top and got the part as Young Simba.


Elijah captivated the hearts of many, while playing Young Simba in Las Vegas Nevada. During his Vegas stretch, he performed at the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert at the Palms Hotel Pearl Theatre, where he gave a remarkable and noteworthy performance. It won him a standing ovation and kudos from Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’Robin Leech , saying Elijah could be the next Michael Jackson Phenom.

Elijah is very much influenced by the Legendary Michael Jackson admiring MJ’s strong work ethic and ability to put his all into every performance. To give his all acting, singing and dancing where he too can leave his audience in awe is the young performers end goal.

As he continues to build his craft his cd single entitled “Let Me Do My Thang” has received over 136,700 hits on Youtube.com. When asked what the song is about he simply answers, “It’s like the title says, let me do my [thang] while I perform and sing and if you’re a performer don’t try to hate on me while I’m doing my [thang].”





“Allow me to be creative in what I’m doing and trust that I will be able to do whatever it is that I set my heart to do,” he said..

Erica D. Hayes who is also a Detroit native directed lil ElijahJ’s “Let Me Do My Thang” video. She’s also, worked with Universal Motown Recording Artist KEM in directing his music video “Why Would You Stay.”

I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with this young man and he is such an amazing person. Very well rounded and a all around super sweet kid. If you want a role model or someone for your young kids to look up to, than this is the young man who you would love for your kids to follow in the footsteps of.
